LTO summons owner of dump truck in fatal Antipolo crash

The Land Transportation Office has issued a show cause order to the registered owner of a dump truck involved in a deadly road accident in Antipolo City. The incident resulted in three deaths and left four other individuals injured, raising serious concerns about vehicle safety and maintenance.

What Happened

The collision occurred on November twenty five along Sumulong Highway in Antipolo. The dump truck, reportedly driven by Daniel Jose Aballa, suddenly lost its brakes while traveling downhill. It struck the rear of another dump truck and pushed both vehicles forward, causing a chain reaction that involved five additional vehicles.

Seven people were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Three of them, including the driver of the involved dump truck, were declared dead on arrival. Four other individuals survived with injuries.

LTO’s Response

The LTO summoned the registered owner, identified as Cristina Alcazar de Castro, to appear at the agency’s central office in Quezon City. She has been required to submit a sworn statement explaining why she should not face penalties for the possible operation of a vehicle with defective or unauthorized equipment.

The LTO is also asking for the most recent Motor Vehicle Inspection Report to determine whether the truck was properly maintained and considered roadworthy at the time of the crash.

A representative or next of kin of the deceased driver has also been asked to attend the proceedings. The driver’s license will remain in LTO custody until the investigation is completed.

Why This Matters

Heavy vehicles such as dump trucks play a critical role in transportation and construction, yet they can pose severe risks if not properly maintained. Reports of brake failure are especially alarming because they can lead to mass casualty incidents on busy roads.

The LTO’s immediate action shows a strong focus on accountability and safety. By requiring documentation and formal explanations, the agency aims to determine whether negligence or non compliance contributed to the deadly crash.

What Happens Next

Authorities will continue examining maintenance records, inspection results, eyewitness accounts and police reports. Depending on the findings, the truck owner may face administrative sanctions or other legal consequences.

The final decision could have broader effects on heavy vehicle regulation, inspection procedures and road safety policies across the country.

The investigation remains ongoing and the public awaits the official outcome from the LTO.
